I hit the delta on Saturday for the last Future Pro Tour “Delta Swing” event. Launching from Morelli Park I ran straight to 14 mile slough. I threw topwater along the rip rap for a little with no success. I then hit a bunch of tulle points with swim jigs and that didn’t work either. Once it was about 9:30 and I didn’t have a single fish in the box I went to dragging a texas rigged Damiki Stinger off some of the tulle points and managed to get one 2 pound keeper and a few non-keepers. The bite was proving to be incredibly tough so I picked up a drop shot and started catching some fish but they were all non-keepers. I had been punching a little bit throughout the day and caught one dink. Once 1 o’clock rolled around and I still only had one fish I realized that my only chance at a limit was punching. The punch bite slowly started to get better and by about 3 it was on fire. I was using a Damiki Knockout with a 1 and a half ounce weight and the fish were absolutely crushing it. I put 3 more fish in the boat including my new personal best a 6.86 pounder. I missed at least 5 other keepers that would of greatly helped my limit. I ended with 11.64 pounds. If you’re headed to the delta soon defiantly give punching a try. Good luck, Nick Lynch
