To every anglers success in fishing is one key component, their fishing rods. The Staple to my fishing arsenal are my Dobyns Rods. I have a Fr 795 SB which is meant for line sizes from 15 to 30 lb test, lures from 1 to 5 ozs, with a med/ heavy fast action and meant for throwing swimbaits, glidebaits and A-rigs. This is one of my favorite rods and I will talk a little more about it in a few. I have a championship series 765 flip which is my flipping, pitching and punch rod. This rod is for lines sizes from 12 to 25 lb test and lures from 1/4 oz to 2 ozs. I also have up to 65 pound braid on this when punching heavy cover. I have a fury series FR 733 C which is meant for lines sizes of 10 to 17 lb test, lures from 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz like senkos, flukes, spooks, spinnerbaits and horny toads. I have a championship series DC 735 C SH which is meant for lines sizes of 12 to 25 lb test, lure weights of 1/4 oz to 1 and 1/2 oz, baits like frogs, pitching & flipping, small swimbaits. I also have 2 fury series spinning rods a FR 702 SF and FR 703 SF which I use these rods for a variety of different finesses techniques like dropshot and shakey heads as well as smaller finesse swimbaits. Now on all of these rods labels they give the rated line sizes, rod lengths and lure selection but I make all my rods multi-purpose just because its what i have to work with lol.
This is My Fury Series FR 795 SB which is one of my favorite rods. As you can see by the label it is 7 ft 9 inches in length, rated for line sizes of 15lb to 30lb test and meant for swimbaits, glidebaits and A-rigs ( also know as umbrella rigs). This time of year as we start to transition into the fall patterns this rod is always with me. As i am still throwing Glidebaits and some swimbaits. As we start to get into the cooler months I will then begin to throw more swimbaits and A-rigs with this rod. here is a photo of some of just a couple of Glidebaits I throw, these are Sneaky Petes By G-Ratt Baits.
Here is a photo of a couple of the Swimbaits I throw with this rod as well. There are a ton of swimbaits on the market so don’t think these are all you can throw. You go out and experiment and find which ones you like and work best for you. These 2 swimbaits are a 68 Huddleston deluxe in a shad pattern and a HawgHunter in the Clearlake hitch pattern.
Now one of my favorite techniques even though it can get tiring throwing them all day an A-rig or umbrella rig. When this bite is going it is so much fun. These can be thrown year around but I personally find them to be more effective during the colder months especially on overcast or rainy days. The A-rig in this picture is a Yumbrella rig but again there are many different styles, shapes and sizes of A-rigs on the market. You just gotta find which ones you like best and work best for you. Some have blade, some have none. Some have lots of teaser locks and some have none. If your a tournament fisherman make sure to search nd be aware of the regulations for their use in your state or tournament trail. They vary from state to state and trail to trail as far as how many hooked baits, how many teasers and how many blades may be allowed for use.
I also use my Fury series FR 795 SB for catfishing. It can be able to toss some weight when I need to throw some bigger weight and baits to get it out there. Like I mentioned my rods are multi-purpose lol. Now to the rods that helped me secure my first major win last year on May 2023 at the NewJen Bass Team Tournament on clearlake.
My partner Matt Ross and myself weigh in 25.76 lbs for or 5 fish limit. My partner Caught our big fish on my Fury Series FR 795 SB with a Jaw Jack N Baits Clearlake Hitch Glidebait. All of our other fish we weighed in were caught on my Fury Series FR 702 SF or FR 703 SF with dropshots. These rods really put their work in that day and did their job perfectly. The Fury series FR 702 SF is a 7 ft spinning rod meant for line sizes of 6 to 12 lb test, lure sizes of 1/8 oz to 1/2 oz and baits like dropshot, dartheads, shakey heads, tubes and gitzits. The Fury series FR 703 SF is a 7 ft spinning rod meant for lines sizes of 8 to 17 lb test, lures sizes of 3/16 to 5/8oz and baits like jigs, texas rigs, senkos and shakey heads.
