Ellerslie County Park Lake
Georgia
12 acres
Water: stained
Clarity: 1 foot
Temp: 68
Fish: Brim, crappie, and black bass
This Lake is located in Ellerslie, Georgia, and is only two years old. It used to be a 124 acre old homestead consisting of walking trails around two lakes, playground, renovated lodge with an accessible restroom, a 20 x 40 lakeside pavilion, dock, public fishing (catch and release only for now), and ample gravel parking. It was given to Harris County to be used as a public park.
I was here for my granddaughters college graduation, as we rented the Pavillion for her party and noticed several anglers trying their luck. I watched from the pavilion deck as there was a feeding frenzy going on across the lake on a submerged tree, immediately thinking top water. There are several shoreline structures of trees and tulleys, but it is mostly hard to get to.

I saw a young fisherman on the walk out dock fishing and catching small Bream every now and then, so I went and talked to him. Introduced myself, and we talked fishing. His name is Jacob Ambercombe, and he is about 20 years old. He’s a local and has fished the Lake since they put it in. Though they sticked the lake, he says there aren’t a lot of bass in it yet, but he did catch a largemouth at the damn area last year that was a little over 5 pounds. As did Chris Parker.
I walked the shoreline a bit, and you can see the Bream beds, and most had fish on them, so there is plenty of feeder fish in there.
It has a Georgia clay bottom, with not much structure to it, so they have been dumping Christmas trees in it for structure.

I would give this lake another 2 years of fish development, and it will turn into a great family outing lake for the kids, as long as they keep the catch and release regulation in place.
It’s out of the way for most anglers, and there are so many better lakes in the state and neighboring states to fish, but if you’re in the area, with the family, I recommend stopping by and have a fishing picnicking day.
Remember, it’s not always about trophy fish and numbers, time with family is important and rewarding!
