Folsom Lake Fishing Report
Water Temp: 54*-55*
12/10/18
This past Monday I was able to sneak out Folsom Lake with Len Vinci of Johnson Outdoors. Water levels are low and are slowly continuing to drop. We launched from the Granite Bay entrance and put the boat in on one of the last ramps. In order to get the ramp you have to drive down the 2 top ramps across the flat parking lot and down a 1/3 mile dirt path to get to the ramp. Four wheel drive is not necessary at this point but could be a factor if some rain came down. Rumor has it that the lake is 5 mph only right now but it is not posted anywhere at the lake nor did the ranger at the pay station mention any 5 mph regulations.
We fished primarily up the north fork in areas that were directly adjacent to channel swings. The morning started out a tad slow with some scattered bites on a Heavy Limits A-Rig. We worked at a moderately quick pace and covered some water in hopes to find some active fish. We bounced around a few areas and finally landed on a point that had a handful of solid fish including a 3.5lb spot and a 2.25lb spot I caught on consecutive casts. The fish fell victim to the X-Zone lures 3.75″ tube. We then moved to a hump a little further down lake and found a pod of fish in 16-20ft. We caught about 5 of them on the X-Zone lures tube and a Football Jig. After this short flurry it was time to call it a day since we both had some prior arrangements. We did throw some swimbaits for a decent portion of the day hoping to lean into a jumbo but only managed a couple of bumps.
In the 4 hours we spent on the water we had a great time and caught a handful of fish. If you decide to head out to Folsom and run be careful and make sure to follow the river channel on your Lake master mapping chip there are some unmarked rockpiles that come out into the lake very far. Below is a link to all of the product we used. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments I am more than happy to assist you in any way I can.
