Lake Berryessa Fishing Report
Got to spend a full day at Berryessa a few days ago. The lake is fish pretty good. I launched out of Markley Cove. It is single lane and launching was smooth enough. First stop I made outside of Markley I pulled into a small creek arm. I saw fish pushing bait balls in 60ft. I dropped a spoon down and bit right away. This set the tone for the day. I ran bait balls in creek arms the rest of the day catching both quality in the 3-4lb class and lots of numbers as well. The fish and the bait are not all the way in the back of the creeks yet. Rather they are in 40-60ft suspended at the openings to the creek arms. I did not find any bait shallower than 30’ all day. The spoon I was using was an ACME Kastmaster in 1oz. I swapped out the hook for the VMC bladed treble to give it secondary action. In the larger arms where the arm splits into two arms I found them right there at the split. Houseboat cove was filled with bait and bass as well. Didn’t matter where you went in houseboat the whole place was alive with fish pushing bait. When the bait was shallower than 20’, I was able to catch them on a Vision 110+1 jerk bait in matt shad and matt shad spy bait. Good luck.
