Lake Berryessa fishing report for 12-6-2014
Myself and Ron Howe both fished out of our own boats today but basically fished together all day.We launched out of Markley cove to partly cloudy sky’s and low to mid sixty degree water. The water was clear in the narrows and stained up North. I showed up today expecting the Jig,rip bait and dart head to all be good producers. The early morning fog forced us to stay South so we fished them on rocky points and ledges. To our surprise only one fish was caught on the dart head and one on the drop shot. After about two hours the fog lifted and we made the long run North. Every point we stopped on was loaded with bait and fish in twenty to thirty feet of water but we couldn’t get them to eat the jig or the drop shot. By this time Ron is starting to put the puzzle together and decides to pick up his crank bait and target outside weed beds in about 7-9 feet of water. It wasn’t long and he had a few in the boat. Not one to be out done I too follow suit and tie on a IMA Beast Hunter in blue and chartreuse and finally get the bite I was looking for,a real nice six and a half pound large mouth. This turned out to be the highlight of the day as we were unable to put much else together even tho we threw S-waver’s, A-rig’s and swimbait’s. Not everyone on the lake had as tough a bite as me and Ron,we talked to several other angler’s that reported a really good deep bite on the drop-shot and some had success with tubes in of ten feet of water next to grass. So remember treat people the way you want to be treated on the water, Stay safe and Tight Lines.
