Today myself and good buddy Ryan Hall made the trip to Berryessa in hopes of catching a decent limit and learning new water. We decided to stay in the narrows due to poor water clarity in the North end of the lake. We started out targeting bluff walls with jigs, drop shots, and Alabama rigs. We managed to pick up a few on the bluffs but soon realized that rocky points were the key to our success. Once we pieced together the puzzle we proceeded to pound the points with a Bailey rig/A rig, 8″ Huddleston, drop shot, football head jigs, spinner baits and a shaky head.
After an hour of catching one to two pound fish we stuck our two biggest fish of the day, a 3.12lb small mouth and a 3.53lb small mouth. The 3.12lb choked a white double willow spinner bait with white blades and the 3.53lb hammered an A rig.
Most of the fish caught were located in 5 to 15 feet of water, some drop shot fish were located in 20 foot water. Water clarity affected the depth of the fish, the muddier the water the shallower the fish were caught. The cleaner the water the deeper the fish were caught. All in all we had a successful day and a great time fishing with Ryan Hall.
We will be out there again this upcoming weekend. Hope to see you guys on the water.
