Lake Camanche Fishing Report

January 21, 2016 by Ron Howe

Camanche Reservoir Map

We fished our monthly club tournament with the Folsom Bass Team at Lake Camanche on Sunday 1/17/16.  Lake temp was 50 deg with 2-3′ water visibility.  I had heard the bite was tough but with morning air temps in the mid 50’s I started throwing reaction baits, Spinner Baits, lv500, and the A-Rig.  We never had a reaction bite.  We decided to slow down and focus on main lake points.  I picked up a 1/4oz.  Frenzy Nail shaky head with a Reaction Innovations Sweet Beaver 4.20 Big Texan color.  First cast I got bit and lost it but built some confidence for the day.  It was blowing 10-15mph on the main body so we were positioning the bow of the boat into the wind and using the trolling motor to slow down our drift as we dragged the shaky heads, and 1/2oz. Football head jigs across the points.  Keeping our baits in 20′ of water was the key to get bit.  We ended up with just under 13lbs and a 3lber for big fish.  It was good enough for the win.  We only had 10-12 bites all day.  Only 35 fish were weighed in a 20 boat field.  The bite was tough but should only get better from here on.  Thanks for reading.
