Saturday March 14th.
Armand Perez, this is the Clearlake Legend Chris Perez’s dad and I decided to go to Lake Oroville for fun fishing and just have a good time and figure it out.
We got to the golden muscle boat inspection line where we were second in the inspection, and it only took 11 minutes, after a 45 minute wait for them to start exactky at 08:30, not a minute before. I’m glad we got there early, because if you were the 8th in line, that would have been at least another hour and a half before you got to go the water. As it was we got on the water about 9:15, way late compared to what we usually do.
So we started out at some of the usual stops, like Forman Creek and so on, with no expectations, as we were here a couple weeks before and things changed, as the snow melted and added another 4 feet of water. The bass should be moving up to beds, so we targeted shallow water.

It wasn’t long before we found a some here and some there but we found a Cove that was stacked, with those that had moved up Shallow and I’m talking under 10 ft. Armand put on a clinic for pinging fish, where I put on a clinic for rip Bait fish. The total at the end of the day was we put together 17 lbs + for our five and caught over 75 fish.

Overall I think Armand caught all his fish pinging, being in front of the boat and I caught mine on a variety of Baits, including The Jig, the spinnerbait, the G Ratt rip bait, which i lost…long story, and I also pinged a few fish.
I got to tell you with a spinnerbait and a rib bait these spotted bass almost rip it out of your hand they hit so hard. Something I love. Whereas a finessing with a ping Minnow is a more subtle pickup.

We could not have asked for better weather up to 75 to 78°, sunny, a very slight breeze to Cool you when you needed it. It got so warm we stripped all our gear off down to shorts and flops.
We fished from about 9:15 till almost 6:30 and we caught 75 fish. It was a fun fun day.
So if you’re looking for just a fun fish, no pressure like tournament fishing, you want to take a spouse out or your kids or others, right now Lake Oroville is hot and the spawning fish are shallow and are whacking your bait. So go have a great time.

Thank you to G Rat Baits for their amazing rip bait, now I need a few more, and Dobyns rods for taking the beating that I put them through.
As always be safe out there, where your life vest when the big engine is on and if possible go take a kid fishing, as they are the future of the sport.
