I had a free day and not sure what lake to head to I ended up choosing Tulloch. I have never fished this body of water so was looking forward to getting out and learning the lake. I launched at the south end of the lake near the dam around 10am and there was a slight breeze with a lot of recreational boats on the water. I idled to the nearest point and second cast with a green pumpkin Berkely maxscent
Flat worm I caught my first small mouth of the day. Next cast was trout. I continued to fish to points leading to the dam catching lots of numbers on the flat worm. I tried lots of other down baits but the drop shot was the deal all day. Until noon I focused on points and pockets both proving successful for numbers of mixed species both small mouth and largemouth. There was a lot of bait in the water and I was able to see bass slashing through the schools of bait near the dam.
After catching close to 30 fish the bite slowed down after 1pm. The fish however became more predictable and focused on the laydowns and shade. The sun had shifted creating new shade lines from the tall trees and putting my drop shot in those areas was successful. At one point I had a little small mouth on my line and large mouth come out of a laydown and ate the fish I had on. I was not able to land the large mouth because of the hook placement however it was cool to see. Overall it was very successful day for my first time on the lake and I caught fish at every place I stopped. I highly recommend taking the kids to this lake if your looking for numbers, quality was not there however.
