New Melones Fishing Report by Christian Ostrander

July 8, 2020 by Randy Walker

Water temp 79-84
I’ve been fishing New Melones for the past couple weeks. The water color changed and now has a nice green tent to it. In my opinion this makes the bite better and the fish don’t get as good of a look in your lure and go more off feel than sight. Fish are throughout the water column. Deep crankbaits and underspins have been producing the better fish for me in 20 to 30 ft. There still is a topwater bite but it slowed down for me. I’ve been throwing a PB&J jig and a green pumpkin or baby bass colored nail weighted senko to catch numbers and better fish but these baits will catch a summer time giant as well. In the picture 9 year old Mavrick caught a 6 pounder with me on a nail weighted senko in 25 ft of water on a rock pile. I’ve been concentrating on main lake for better fish and the river for solids and numbers.
