RB Bass Outdoors angler Amy Avedikian fished the Fresno Bass Club tournament at Lake McClure this past weekend on February 11th as a non-boater and was able to pull of a third place finish. Here is what Amy had to say about how her tournament day went.
“The morning of the tournament started out a little bit warmer than the previous 2 days of practice! The morning temperature was a crisp 34 degrees, and water temps were about 54-56 degrees. It was sunny and the wind was light, but that could change quickly depending on what part of the lake you were on. Even though my boater and I were fishing against each other, we decided to start on main lake hoping to each catch a limit! The spot we wanted to start in was taken, even though we were boat 4 out, so we quickly decided to fish a main lake point. I started by throwing a hula grub on a 3/16 OZ football head working it about 10-30 feet deep. I picked up a few dinks but I still had nothing in the live well. My boater and I then decided to head up the river. I had pre-fished this area so I had some confidence in it! The wind was about 5-10mph up in the river and it was way windier than main lake. I decided to throw a Neko rig, which I threw in practice and have confidence in. I threw a senko with a 3/32 OZ weight while we were inside a creek channel and fishing the channel swing about 5-30 feet. I started picking up a few fish but it was a grind! By 1:30 I finally had my limit and made one cull. At 2:00 my boater said, well now’s the time for a kicker and I thought in my head I’m just glad I have a limit! I decided to pick up my Texas rig as we came around a point onto a steep rocky wall. I was using a 3/16 ounce bullet weight with a green pumpkin worm on my favorite Stealthstixx rod! I tossed it out into about 10-15 feet of water and caught a 3.90 large mouth with 30 minutes to spare before the tournament was over! Once that fish was in the boat I almost cried! I seem to always be reminded during tournaments to never EVER give up, keep that line in the water and stay positive!”
“Next month I will be fishing a 2 day tournament at Don Pedro with the Fresno Bass Club.” Good luck to Amy at her next event at Lake Don Pedro.
