Clearlake
Clear water
Fog to bright skies
Wind at 4
I was feeling good enough to drive to Bob Tylers place in the Keyes at Clearlake to stay the night and fish Friday so I did. Friday morning team AARP decided to “sleep in” to 6:30 and make a fire, cause it was freezing out and have breakfast before hitting the water. Our first run out of the keyes is met with calm water but large patches of fog. We decided to fish the Redbud arm and were excited to wet a line, as the tournament the weekend prior had a couple of 31lb bags.
We got to our first spot and water was 51 degrees and clear. We threw A rigs, underspins, jigs, drop shots, LVs, rip baits, single ball Kietechs, and Swimbaits. We got nothing, even though we can see them down there below the bait balls. Bob could only get one bass to eat and it was a 2 lber.
We moved around to a lot of our usual spots with the same no fish no bite results. It was frustrating to say the least. Sometimes Sonar is a curse. What’s better, to see them and not get them or don’t see them and not get them?
We decided to fish beyond the narrows and ran to the community holes of Henderson, Jago Bay and up to State Park.
It’s now early afternoon and i still have not had a bite. I’ve changed colors several times but still no luck. I have no idea how they got 31lbs. I even downsized my gear still nothing. But its a beautiful day to fish.
So we continue up State Park when i get smacked on a 3.3 quarter ounce underspin and I haul in a 4 lber. Bob has it on his YouTube channel. So go to his channel and subscribe please, it helps him out! Yes I was pleased to finally hook up but still frustrated that we couldn’t find a school that was biting. We ended up back down at rattlesnake with the same of no fish no bite when we decided to call it a day, as I had a 2 hour drive to do.
Frustrating as it was it was great to be back on the water with Team AARP. If you get a chance to fish with my RB Bass Brother and buddy Bob don’t miss that chance, we laugh constantly!
Remember to take a kid fishing, they are our future!
