I spent the last couple days on a lake that I never fished before. Before I ever got on the water I did a little homework I got on Google maps, and I went to the satellite setting, so I had a understanding what this place looked like. When I finally got on the water I had an idea where to go. It didn’t take long before I caught my first fish. It was a smallmouth It wasn’t very big but it give me an idea what the fish were doing. I caught fish all day long, and in all three stages pre-spawn, spawning, and post-spawn. The water clarity was 8 to 10 foot in some areas with water temperature around 59°. At first I caught a lot of fish on a dart head with a morning dawn roboworm, but throughout the day I noticed there was a lot of trout shallow so I decided to pick up a Swimbait. I started throwing a glide bait, and got rewarded with a follower. That gave me confidence to keep throwing it, and lucky thing I did because I ended up catching some quality large mouth.
I also caught fish on a Huddleston, good thing I did because I was losing my confidence with that bait. The reason behind that is theirs a lot of people throwing swimbaits now so I believe the fish are getting used to these big baits. On another note it felt good to get a few bites and see the drawing power big swimbaits have. Definitely a fun trip I want to get back up there soon and catch a bunch more fish.
