Happy New Year RB Bass fans!!! Are you a young angler looking for answers on cheaper gear, here ya go!
I have had some questions lately from younger anglers looking for some advice on cheaper fishing gear. I realize that the sport can be pretty expensive, even without having a boat. Being a student or not having a job and not having the funds to buy “top of the line” stuff can be frustrating. So I’ll touch on just a few things, one I have already done a few years back. Check out my RB Bass YouTube review on the Diawa Presidential 30 spinning reel. To date this is the one of the best ones out there for finesse applications, and it was only $59.
The next is Braided fishing line. We all have our favorites and we know how expensive all fishing line has gotten. Ironic because when I was young fishing line was the cheapest thing you could buy. Spool of 12 lb Fluorocarbon was $8.00. When you change lines a lot, and you should, You see $$$$ out the window. I found some Japanese 9 strand braided fishing line called Spectra.
This comes in different pound Tests and length, and color. I got some about a year ago, in 60 lb test, to see if it measured up. Truthfully, I have yet to have a problem with it. For the price of $11s for 500 yard, it’s pretty darn good, especially when other line like Seagar, Power Pro, Spider Wire, Tuff Line etc costs you and arm and a leg. I haven’t punched with it yet but almost every other application, but with a leader in most cases.
So don’t be afraid to go off the wall brands and try something new, you might find a gem, or at least something that works and fits your budget.
