To begin with, I have two of these reels that I use for Tournament Bass Fishing, one for Drop Shoting and Neko Rigging, and the other for Shakey Heads and Ned Rigs. Both of these reels have Finns braid on them, though any could do, just personal preference, with an 8 or 6 pounds Fluorocarbon leader. I use them on my Dobyns 702 SF.
This reel is light weight, at only 8.8 ounces, which makes a huge difference to me with severe arthritis in my thumb joints. It has a gear ratio of 6.2:1 and it can draw in 30 inches of line in one turn of the handle. So there is Speed when you need it, and when you are fishing a tournament, fish in the boat is money! It has a stainless steel oil felt drag, with a max drag of 10 pounds. It comes with an aircraft aluminum handle, and most of them have a soft touch knob, however I have a wood knob, as it is a limited edition. The spool allows you to tie directly to it with Braid and has a slow oscillation gear. You can fill the spool with 255 yards of 4 pound Mono or 275 pounds of 6 pound braid.
This company has been around since 1881 and I can see why. The fluidness of the reel is awesome and flawless. I don’t even hear it when turning the handle, very smooth. I can honestly say, for the money, you can’t beat it, for the above application. Most places its $59.00, so it’s easy on the pocketbook as well. My suggestion is to give it a try the next time you are in the market for a great spinning reel. It would even make a great trout reel!
