So, if you are like me, you are getting things ready for your hunting trip this fall. Important planning never starts too early!
Here’s a quick hunting tip, one on ballistic reference. Once you sight your weapon in, whatever rifle platform it is, turn the weapon upside down and stick a cheat sheet on the bottom of the magazine or magazine chamber. Your cheat sheet should have ballistics on it up to 500 yards, on the bullet you are using. So if you are sighted in at 200, your cheat sheet might look like this; (see photo)
Bullet 130 gr, 100 yds +1.4″, 150 yds +1.3″, 200 yds 0, 250 yds -2.5″, 300 yds -6.5″, 400 yds – 18.8″, 500 yds -38.25″
If you have memory issues like me, you now have automatic holdover or under, at a glance, to make the shot. This only accounts for elevation. You have to judge windage, if any, which is the hardest to do and any heat rise. Know your ballistics of the round you are shooting. It helps tremendously!
